                The presenter has had a long history of delivering courses by unconventional means. In 1994 and 1996 he taught linguistics courses over satellite television. He has also taught linguistics courses via compressed video as well as via the internet. At present, however, he is teaching linguistics face to face. This presentation describes using visual material to structure a course focusing on English, particularly American English, by using MacNeil and Cran’s series “Do You Speak American?” as well as such videos as the Human Language series, “American Tongues” and “Yeah You Rite.” The presentation also explores ways such a course could be developed for delivery over the internet.
