Journal & Newsletter

In 1977, Volume I of The SECOL Bulletin was published, edited by Reza Ordoubadian of Middle Tennessee State University. More a newsletter than a scholarly journal at first, The SECOL Bulletin evolved into a publication of  current  research. In November 1981, the Executive Committee voted to change the name of the newsletter to The SECOL Review. The first issue of The SECOL Review appeared in 1982. In 2000, the journal became the Southern Journal of  Linguistics (SJL). SJL will soon be listed in Blackwells' Linguistics Abstracts, an electronic and print abstracting journal that provides access to abstracts form nearly 400 linguistics journals published since 1985. Individuals can purchase back issues of the journal for $10. The cost is  $20 for libraries.

SECOL members are asked to contribute to upcoming issues of SJL in the areas listed below:

  • Articles on topics of general interests to SECOL members

  • Book reviews

    • Members' recently published books for which a review is desired

    • Reviews of recently read books of interest to the SECOL membership

    • Requests for books to be reviewed

  • Referees for manuscripts

  • Suggestions for special interest issues
